KATHMANDU, MAY 14

A delegation led by Han Moon-hee, President of the Korea Railroad Corporation, held discussions today with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on the development of railways in Nepal.

During the meeting, held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, the South Korean railway company-boasting a 126-year history-expressed its interest in collaborating on railway construction projects in Nepal.

An animation video of the proposed 'Everest Railway Project,' extending from Chhataradham to Chaurikharka, was presented during the discussion. The video was prepared by Sky Walk Company.

Also present at the meeting were Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal and Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board, Sushil Gyawali.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli noted that Nepal has already commenced railway operations in Janakpur. In light of ongoing feasibility studies for railway development in other regions, he welcomed Korean collaboration as a positive initiative.

It was stated that representatives of the Korea Railroad Corporation had earlier reached an agreement with the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, as well as the Investment Board, to establish a joint working group to study the prospects for railway construction and cooperation.
