KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 5

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that Nepal-China relations have been further strengthened following his recent official visit to China.

Speaking at a news conference organized at Tribhuvan International Airport upon his return from the four-day visit, PM Oli emphasized that the enhanced bilateral ties would significantly benefit Nepal.

"During my visit, various agreements were reached under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which will yield substantial benefits for Nepal," he remarked. PM Oli added that each project would undergo separate discussions and agreements to ensure effective implementation.

He highlighted that Nepal and China signed a cooperation framework agreement under the BRI in Beijing. Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai, represented Nepal, while Liu Sushe, Vice Chair of the National Development and Reform Commission, signed on behalf of China.

The signing ceremony was attended by both PM Oli and his Chinese counterpart, Li Qiang. Additionally, the Prime Ministers signed an agreement on mutual assistance.

The agreements include key initiatives such as the construction of the Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel, promotion of trade between Nepal and China, export of thermally processed buffalo meat from Nepal to China, and the exchange of certificates marking the completion of the nine-story Durbar Square building, rebuilt with Chinese support.

Further agreements encompass development projects, economic and technological aid, and collaboration in areas like connectivity, industrial infrastructure development, agriculture, trade, tourism, investment, science and technology, sports, disaster management, cultural exchanges, and poverty alleviation.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that these agreements would strengthen connectivity, foster people-to-people ties, and support Nepal's socio-economic development.
