KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa said that the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli would visit India soon.

The Deputy Prime Minister made the remark while receiving a memorandum from the Dudhuwa Wildlife Reserve Victims Struggle Committee on Friday. The committee submitted the memo asking the government to protect the locals’ lives saying that they were living under threat of the wildlife due to the neighbouring Indian wildlife reserve.

On the occasion, Thapa expressed the commitment to resolve the problem through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He assured that the environment conducive would be created for the discussions in this issue during the Prime Minister’s visit to India.

Meanwhile, the Laxmanpur Dam Victims Struggle Committee has drawn the attention of the government to address the victims’ problems through diplomatic ways stating that as high as 25,000 people of Rapti river bank are being displaced annually in Banke district.

The Committee’s representatives met DPM Thapa in Singhadurbar and shared their problems. It is said that some 2,400 bigha of land is completely inundated while 4,000 bigha has become non-arable, with 60,000 people affected from the high dam constructed from the Indian side. Likewise, 15 people lost their lives while five others have gone missing as a result of the flooding triggered by the Dam.
