PM urged to clear statute roadblocks
KATHMANDU: Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang today called on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and urged him to immediately take initiatives for clearing the hurdles on the process of the statute writing.
The leaders held an-hour long meeting at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar. “The PM assured me that he would talk with the Maoist chairman Pushpa Prachanda, NC president Girija Prasad Koirala and other leaders to end the deadlock soon,” Nembang said.
“I drew the PM’s attention to the harsh reality that the CA was going to change its schedule for the sixth time,” Nembang told The Himalayan Times.
Five different CA committees are yet to submit their reports to the CA for discussions the deadline has already been missed many times due to the lack of political consensus over the contents to be specified in the new statute.
The CA will have to promulgate the new constitution by May 28, 2010 as per its schedule.
