Police have arrested three individuals on charges of defrauding over Rs 6 million from people by promising lucrative foreign employment opportunities in countries such as Qatar, Portugal, Kuwait, and the UK.
The arrested have been identified as Hari Krishna Thakur (35), of Rautahat (currently residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-22), Rina Gurau (41), of Nawalparasi East (currently in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-5), and Kabiraj Sipkhan (55), of Kavre (currently living in Nagarjun Municipality-15, Kathmandu).
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Thakur allegedly took Rs 100,000 from a person promising employment in Qatar. Gurau is accused of defrauding three individuals of Rs 1.855 million by offering jobs in Portugal and Kuwait. Sipkhan reportedly collected Rs 4.114 million from a person with false assurances of employment in the UK. All three suspects had gone out of contact after receiving the money.
Acting on complaints from the victims, police apprehended the suspects from various locations in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
They have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal, Kathmandu for further investigation and legal action.
