Politicos back children’s plea

Kathmandu, May 2:

Various political leaders today expressed solidarity with the national declaration made by children asking political parties for the same. The children had issued the declaration during the Global Campaign for Education.

Leaders expressed solidarity to the campaign by signing on the declaration at a programme organised by CWIN. The collected signatures will be submitted to the G-8 conference to be held in Scotland in July.

The leaders signing the declaration included Bhogendra Prasad Thakur of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi), Ram Acharya of CPN-ML, Dilendra Badu of Nepali Congress, Muktinath Maul of Nepal Sadhbhawana Party and Shankher Pokhrel of CPN-UML.

The national declaration seeks political parties’ support to put an end to exploitation of children in war and to implement the declaration to make schools as zone of peace. It asks parties to stop calling bandhs and chakkajams, to encourage children to go to school and to create safe and better learning environment in schools.

The declaration also seeks the parties help in protecting children from the bad impact of conflict. It says the political parties should be equally responsible for providing quality education to the children and sparing schools from politics.
