Work related to the construction of power house tunnel for Tanahun Hydropower Project in Tanahun's Rising Rural Municipality has been completed.

According to project Acting Chief Rajbhai Shilpakar, the 89-metre long, 22-metre wide and 51-metre high power house tunnel was constructed by Sino Hydropower Limited of China.

"The tunnel construction work was considered complicated and work on the tunnel had started from August 2020," Shilpakar said, adding that work related to infrastructure building in the power house and tunnel would soon start.

As for the tunnel to carry water, its work is said to be under way. Of the 1,450-metre-long tunnel, digging of 350 metre stretch has been completed. While access tunnel has been dug and diversion tunnel construction is under way. Regarding the construction of transmission line, 25 pylons have been installed so far.

As per plan, a 220KV double circuit transmission line from Damauli to Chitwan's Bharatpur will be constructed, with a total of 94 transmission towers. The transmission line construction is being carried out by an Indian company. Some 23 ropani land will be acquired for the purpose. Distribution of compensation for the same has started.

The 140MW capacity reservoir-based project is to be the second reservoir-based hydropower project after Kulekhani hydropower project.
