Nepali Congress candidates have won as both mayor and deputy mayor of Byas municipality in Tanahun district.

The results of the local polls following a late night public announcement revealed that NC leader Baikuntha Neupane had been elected as the mayor of the municipality alongside Indira Darai as his deputy.

Neupane, representing the alliance, received 12,078 votes and surpassed Deepakraj Joshi of CPN-UML.

In the same manner, another Congress leader in the face of Indira Darai was deemed fit as the deputy mayor of the local level by 13,498 voters. Darai weighed heavier against CPN-UML opponent Basundhara Gharti, who received 10,042 votes.

It has been learnt that the voter roll of the municipality had 47,542 eligible voters among which polling of 30,247 voters was reported on May 13 local polls.
