Be prepared for polls, minister tells APF

Kathmandu, October 8

Minister for Home Affairs Janardan Sharma today said the Armed Police Force was working dutifully and responsibly as per the mandate given to it.

Addressing an inaugural function of ‘APF Senior Officer and Training Conference, 2017’ organised in APF Headquarters at Halchowk, he praised its role in maintaining law and order, disaster management, and border and industrial security.  “I hope this conference will play a crucial role in developing a robust security strategy by learning from the problems encountered in the past,” Minister Sharma said.

He also said that the APF would be reorganised to fit into the federal setup and urged it to be prepared for provincial and parliamentary elections.

Inspector General of APF Singha Bahadur Shrestha said the conference would come up with a concrete action plan on current security challenges and the role of the security agency in overcoming them. “The APF expects that the Home Administration Reform Roadmap, 2017 recently issued by Minister Sharma will support the specialisation and

modernisation efforts of the security agency,” he said.

State Minister for Home Affairs Shyam Kumar Shrestha, home secretary Lok Darshan Regmi, and senior APF officials were also present at the function.
