President appoints Hari Krishna Karki Nepal's Attorney General

KATHMANDU: President Ram Baran Yadav on Thursday appointed senior advocate Hari Krishna Karki to the post of Nepal's Attorney General.

According to a statement issued by the President's Office, Karki, a permanent resident of Mamkha-1 in Okhaldhunga district, has been appointed to the post as per Article 257(2) of the Constitution.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday had recommended the President to appoint the Nepal Bar Association President Karki to the post.

The Attorney General is the chief legal advisor of the government, according to the Constitution.

The incumbent Attorney General Baburam Kunwar had resigned from the position on Sunday evening after Oli was elected to the post of Prime Minister.

Traditionally, the Attorney General resigns after election of the new PM as s/he has to work as the legal advisor to the PM.

Meanwhile, Karki assumed his office today as well.
