KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 10
President Ramchandra Paudel departed today for Azerbaijan, leading Nepal's delegation to the 29th UN Conference of Parties (COP29) on Climate Change.
The event is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan's capital, from November 11 to 22.
Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Speaker Devraj Ghimire bade farewell to President Paudel at the VVIP Lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport this afternoon.
A contingent of the Nepali Army presented a guard of honor on the occasion.
Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, lawmakers, senior government officials, security chiefs, and representatives from diplomatic missions in Nepal were also present to see him off.
President Paudel's visit is in response to an invitation from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He is scheduled to address the World Leaders' Summit on Climate Action on November 12.
Additionally, Nepal will hold a high-level session led by President Paudel on November 13 during COP29. Nepal will further highlight its agenda in a high-level meeting on "Addressing Climate-Related Loss and Damage in Mountainous Regions."
Accompanying him is his spouse, Sabita Paudel, along with his environment expert Dr. Parameshwor Pokharel, personal secretary Abagya Paudel, and communication expert Kiran Kumar Pokharel.
Other members of the delegation include Narayan Prasad Sharma, Secretary at the Office of the President; Krishna Hari Pushkar, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers; Dharmendra Jha, Chairman of Rastriya Samachar Samiti; and Amrit Bahadur Rai, Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others.
President Paudel is expected to return to Nepal on November 15.
