KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari said Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala's death was an irreparable loss to the nation.

Spokesperson at the President's Office, Khadananda Dhakal, said the President was shocked and sad to receive the news of Koirala's demise.

"The role he played throughout his life as a tireless champion of Nepal's democratic movement is ever memorable," Dhakal quoted the President as saying in a statement issued this afternoon.

The Head of the State also noted that Koirala devoted his life in attainment, protection and promotion of democracy in the nation.

She also remembered Koirala's coordinating role in promulgation of the Constitution from the Constituent Assembly last year.
