KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday announced the presidential pardon to 104 jailbirds on the occasion of Dashain festival.

Now, the jailbirds would be freed from the prisons without doing their remaining time.

The President's Office in a statement said the decision was made upon the recommendation of the Council of Ministers on Thursday.

The decision complies with the Article 276 of the Constitution and other prison-related rules, the statement added.

Customarily, the Head of the State issues such pardons on the occasion of major festivals and national days every year.
