Prez appeals to all to exercise voting right
Kathmandu, December 6
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has called on all eligible Nepali citizens to exercise their right to vote in the second phase of provincial and parliamentary elections slated to be held in 45 districts tomorrow.
In a message issued today, she said, “It is my pleasure to call on all Nepali people to exercise their voting right without fear.” According to the message, the constitution not only guarantees people’s rights, it also stipulates that elections at all three levels — federal, provincial and local — should be held by January 21.
People have already demonstrated their enthusiasm by casting vote in the civic polls and the first phase of parliamentary and provincial elections in a peaceful manner. “The parliamentary and provincial elections are a stepping stone to implementing the constitution and developing socialism-oriented economy for social justice and equality,” President Bhandari said in the message.
She said participating in the elections was not only the exercise of the people’s right to select their representatives but also an opportunity to contribute to building prosperous Nepal.
