KATHMANDU: Newly elected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli assumed his office in Singhadarbar, Kathmandu, after taking the oath of office and secrecy from the President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Thursday.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by political leaders, constitutional post holders, chiefs of security agencies and members of diplomatic corps.

After assuming the office, PM Oli endorsed a proposal to formulate the good conduct policy. He said his government would Open technical institutes in all rural municipalities and municipalities. The PM committed to Initiating work to complete the construction of Parliament building in two years.

Similarly, the PM stressed the need on modernising farming, adopting policies to increase agriculture production, development of tourism and attracting foreign direct investment for the development of the country.

PM Oli made promise to frame policies to help people bring back money stashed abroad and invest in the productive areas. He said, the new government would adopt zero tolerance policy against corruption.

PM Oli also formed a three-member cabinet after being appointed to the top executive post. He inducted two UML lawmakers — Lalbabu Pandit and Thama Maya Thapa Magar — in his Cabinet. Pandit was made minister for population and environment and Thapa Magar minister for women, children and social welfare. Oli will keep the remaining ministries till he expands his Cabinet.

Oli, who has also been elected the CPN-UML's parliamentary party leader will have to win the trust vote within 30 days.

The left alliance has a comfortable majority in the 275-member House of Representatives, with UML having 121 seats and the CPN-MC 53.

This is Oli’s second stint as prime minister. Born on February 23, 1952 in Tehrathum, Oli was elected 38th prime minister of the country on October 11, 2015.
