Private school teachers organise sit-in
Kathmandu, February 23:
The teachers and staff from private and boarding schools of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur under the Institutional School Teachers’ Union-Nepal (ISTU-N) organised a sit-in protest programme at the District Education Office (DEO) of the respective districts as its second phase rebel to fulfil their basic demands.
Narayan Poudel, ISTU department head, said: “We have stopped all administrative work of the DEO of the three districts.” He added that the teachers from the private and boarding schools had come to support the sit-in protest programme.
“If the concerned bodies don’t fulfil our demands, as our third phase protest, we are going to padlock all the DEO from March 2,” Poudel said.
The ISTU has put forth its three-point charter of demands of giving teachers appointment letters for their service; providing salary and facilities to the teachers equivalent to that of the community schools run by the government and include one ISTU member in each school’s management committee institutionalising the school.
