Probe should continue, says Binisha’s kin
Kathmandu, December 25
The final rites of Binisha Shah, a Nepali student pursuing dental education in Pioneer Dental College, Dhaka, took place in Haraincha, Morang, today.
Her body was brought home yesterday. The Embassy of Nepal in Bangladesh had received the police report and embalming certificate that were necessary to bring back Shah’s body.
The postmortem was conducted at Dhaka Medical College. The initial report of the postmortem was handed over to Binisha’s brother Narendra Sahu. “The preliminary report provided by Dhaka Medical College said that Binisha had died by hanging,” said Narendra Sahu.
“The video footage provided by the college shows her in normal condition in the examination hall. She is also seen writing her exam normally. She had been writing for one-and-a-half hours. The college administration informed me that she had written answers in another sheet of paper and had attached it with the main answer sheet. The video footage did not show any extra sheet of paper. Later, she was given chance to write her paper. She wrote the exam for another one hour quietly in normal condition. She then left the exam hall half-an-hour before the exam concluded.
The video footage, which shows her walking downstairs from the third floor is insufficient. Footages are found to be missing. It took her seven minutes to descend to the ground floor from the third floor. The video footage of the floor that has the college administration and offices have not been provided. I have doubt regarding these. Therefore, we have filed a report with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for further investigation,” said Sahu, Binisha’s brother. Sahu had gone to Bangladesh immediately after hearing the news.
Nineteen-year-old Binisha was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room on December 19.
