KATHMANDU, APRIL 1

Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Sumana Shrestha, has announced that a campaign will be conducted to end party politics in the education sector.

During today's meeting of the National Assembly's Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee, Minister Shrestha stated that the campaign to eradicate party politics in education will commence from Tribhuvan University (TU).

She emphasized, "The reason why investment in the education sector is not yielding results is due to parties' interference." According to her, there has been an open call for applications for members of the Service Commission.

During the meeting convened to discuss the progress and situation in the education sector, Suresh Adhikari, the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, presented details of the current financial year and outlined the future action plan.

He advocated for an increase in the education budget and assured that the school reconstruction action plan for the Jajarkot earthquake-affected area would be expedited. "We are preparing to augment the budget for repairing schools in the earthquake-affected regions," he stated.

In the meeting, Members of Parliament Jaga Prasad Sharma, Indira Devi Gautam, Rajendra Lakshmi Gaire, and others provided suggestions on the enhancement of the education sector.

Chairman of the committee, Sonam Galzen Sherpa, presented an example of non-politicized community schools and underscored the necessity to improve the quality of education.
