Property worth Rs 5m looted

Kathmandu, June 3:

Unidentified persons looted cash and valuables amounting to over Rs 5 million from the house of Rudra Raj Sayami at Baphal early this morning, police said.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati, four armed persons broke into the house and took all the family members under control.

“They took away $35,000, 42 tolas of gold, cash Rs 730,000, diamond jewelery and four bundles of travel cheques of $500,” the police said, citing the FIR.

According to the police, Sayami runs a guest house at Jhonchhe and he returned from Japan a few years ago.

The police said the looters, armed with khukuris and iron rods, beat Sayami with the iron rod when they left the house. He is back home after receiving treatment at a nearby clinic.

“First, they asked for Rs 10,000 and then Rs 20,000. But, when they saw all the cash and valuables, they took them away,” the police quoted Sayami as saying.

The police, however, expressed ignorance over whether Sayami had kept the reported amount of cash and valuables in the house.

In another incident, property worth Rs 376,300 was stolen from the rented room of Kanchhi Sherpa at the house owned by Ramesh Shrestha at Maharajgunj. “The theives came into

the room through a window and took away cash and valuables,” Metropolitan Police Circle, Mahrajgunj, said.
