Proposal on public importance to combat flood caused damages
KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML lawmaker Bhim Bahadur Rawal today presented a proposal of public importance for the long-term government policy and programmes on the resolution of the flood and landslides caused disasters.
In the second meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today, Rawal said that the present problem of flooding and inundation was caused due to embankment and dams built by India in the bordering areas.
He further asked the government to declare the inundated districts as flood-hit area and provide Rs 500,000 to the victim's families and provide Rs 100,000 to every survivor immediately.
Rawal also expressed displeasure over the government's reluctance to hold consultations with the opposition party on the issue.
The proposal has incorporated the cases of human casualties, disappearance and losses caused by the monsoon rain triggered floods and landslides in different parts of the country.
Lawmakers Rishikesh Pokharel, Shatrudhan Mahato and Krishna Bhakta Pokharel seconded the proposal.
Discussion on the proposal is underway and the lawmakers would make their deliberations in the next House meeting at 11:00 am tomorrow, said Speaker Onsari Gharti.
