PU office vandalised, talks break
Kathmandu, November 8:
The talks between the agitating students and vice-chancellor of Pokhara University (PU) held at its Kathmandu contact office ended abruptly at around 5 pm yesterday when an unidentified gang started vandalising the office property.
“We ran for cover when the incident occurred all of a sudden,” said Subash Pokharel, president of the Nepal Students’ Union’s PU unit. “Now we will intensify our protests and its modality will be decided soon,” he added. He also said that computers and other office items were vandalised even though none was injured in the incident.
NSU central vice-president Devendra Prakash Poudel, joint general secretary Bishnu Panthi, treasurer Kundan Raj Kafle and Pokharel were discussing their political and academic demands with vice chancellor Dr Keshar Jang Baral since 2 pm yesterday. The VC reportedly told them that he could not do anything about the political demands.
The PU chapter of the NSU has locked the Gyaneshwor contact office and VC office in Pokhara for the past five weeks, demanding online library access for students, exchange programme with foreign universities and scholarship quotas for free competition.
