KATHMANDU: The Press Council Nepal on Friday made public a study report, which proposes a qualification test for journalists to boost professionalism.

The task force on journalists' code of conduct and qualification criteria submitted the report to the PCN Chairman Borna Bahadur Karki today.

Based on the report of media experts, the Council is learned to have been planning a qualification test for the journalists.

The report has explained rationales behind the qualification test, foreign practices on it, types and procedures of the test, qualification and objectives of the syllabus.

The task force was coordinated by former registrar at the Supreme Court Dr Ram Krishna Timalsena whereas Dr Kundan Aryal, Chief of Journalism Department at the Tribhuvan University, and Gunaraj Luitel, Chief Editor of the Nagarik daily.

On the occasion, Council Chairman Karki reiterated that the Council was making preparations to conduct journalists' qualifying tests.
