KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 19
Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has announced that the government is diligently preparing to instigate radical changes in the information technology sector, highlighting that minor reforms would fall short of meeting the necessary transformation.
During an interaction with the IT Journalists Forum held on Tuesday, she emphasized the ongoing groundwork for policy, legal, and structural reforms. Minister Sharma revealed that Nepal introduced the National Cyber Security Policy 2080 for the first time and shared that a corresponding law is currently under development based on this policy.
Addressing the lack of momentum in the Digital Nepal framework's implementation over the past four years, she disclosed that the restructuring of a key component, the Digital Nepal Acceleration (DNA) project, has reached its final stages.
Minister Sharma stressed that while the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology can spearhead the establishment of digital infrastructure for implementing the Digital Nepal Framework, its success is intricately linked with sectors such as education, health, tourism, agriculture, finance, and urban development.
She highlighted the potential complications arising from discrepancies in the understanding of this initiative among government agencies, emphasizing the need for cohesive collaboration among them.
Regarding this year's issuance of the frequency policy and asset management regulations in the telecom sector, she reassured that working in alignment with national interests eliminates the need for apprehension.
Minister Sharma emphasized that such policies are aligned with national interests and should not evoke fear.
