Rai appointed IG of Armed Police Force
Kathmandu, April 26
The government today appointed Acting Inspector General of Armed Police Force Durja Kumar Rai as the Inspector General of the paramilitary force.
Minister for Information and Technology and government Spokesperson Sherdhan Rai said today’s Cabinet took a decision to this effect.
Rai was designated as the acting APF chief on December 18 following suspension of then APF chief Kosh Raj Onta on the recommendation of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
Onta was accused of involvement in ‘massive financial irregularities’ in the procurement of logistics for APF personnel.
APF chief Rai commenced his career in Nepal Police as an inspector on February 15, 1987. He was transferred to the APF from Nepal Police as superintendent on April 17, 2001.
Born in Bhojpur on November 16, 1961, Rai completed his master’s degree in humanities and social sciences from the Tribhuvan University.
Rai was elevated to the post of AIG on November 3, 2011. He was a noted national-level volleyball player. He participated in eight international-level volleyball tournaments representing Nepal.
In his professional service spanning over 29 years, Rai has taken part in numerous national and international training, programmes and workshops.
In recognition of his outstanding service and performance, he was decorated with several awards, including Gorkha Dakshinbahu and others.
