Govt decides to recommend Chhetri as Acting CoAS

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to recommend Chief of General Staff Rajendra Chhetri to the post of Acting Chief of Army Staff.

A Cabinet meeting held at Singh Durbar on Friday morning decided to recommend Chhetri’s name to the President for appointment to the post from August 11, said Spokesperson of the government and Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Minendra Rijal.

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana is staying on leave from August 11, one month before the termination of his service term.

He will serve as Acting CoAS until the incumbent CoAS retires on September 10.

Chhetri, who joined the Army as a lieutenant on October 24, 1978, was promoted to lieutenant general on February 24, 2015, paving the way for his elevation to the post of Army Chief.
