Replace Hindi with Nepali movies, FINFI tells govt
KATHMANDU: Federation of Indigenous Nationalities’ Film (FINFI) has demanded the government to replace the telecast of Indian movies on Nepal Television with indigenous Nepali movies.
A two-day workshop of the federation that concluded here on Tuesday had made the decision. The federation comprises of eight different indigenous organisations that includes Gurung, Newar, Limbu, Magar, Mugali, Sunuwar, Tamang and Kirat communities.
The federation has demanded that the cinema theatre should screen indigenous films for at least 90 days a year. The government has been urged to provide financial incentives to promote Nepali movies.
FINFI in a press statement also demanded proportional representation from FINFI in the Film Development Board until the government forms an autonomous Indigenous Nationalities Film Development Board.
“In order to strengthen the indigenous films in the country the government should provide funds for the betterment of the industry besides organising film festivals of indigenous films and honouring the artists and film makers,” said the statement.
Registration of films through the local bodies and allowing them to shoot their movies in the Nepali Army barracks, Nepal Police posts, hospitals, airports and other cultural spots are the other demands of FINFI.
