Kathmandu, June 11:

The deputy mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Rajaram Shrestha, who had submitted his resignation along with the mayor and ward chairmen on May 23, is set to resume duties from Monday. Sources at the KMC said the deputy mayor and his RPP-affiliated team today visited the KMC office and told the executive officer that they would be joining the office from Monday. However, the names of the ward chairmen, who would rejoin, are yet to be finalised. "They did not clarify as to why they had left the KMC and on which grounds they are coming back," the source added.

The deputy mayor held a meeting at the KMC office with RPP-affiliated and other ward chairmen but they could not come to any conclusions. Sources said they were asked to issue a press release on their re-joining which they failed to do. It is expected that the team will issue the same before resuming their work next week. Deputy Mayor Shrestha, could not be contacted for comments. Meanwhile, the outgoing mayor of Lalitpur, Buddhi Raj Bajracharya, said there is no such plan to go back to the municipality which he had left. His resignation, however, has not been accepted by the Minister for Local Development.
