Respect press freedom: NPI
Kathmandu, January 30:
The Nepal Press Institute (NPI) has expressed serious concern over attacks on journalists and media institutions during the Terai unrest.
Issuing a press release here today, Chiranjivi Khanal of NPI said, “All should respect press freedom guaranteed by the interim constitution.”
“Movement of journalists for reporting without fear and intimidation and their right to disseminate news is one of the important aspects of Press freedom,” the release stated.
“Collection and dissemination of news and views in an impartial manner without obstruction does promote the welfare of society by meeting their information needs,” it said, adding, “Ignoring this reality, the agitators have denied journalists’ access to sources of information through violent attacks on mediapersons.”
