KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 30

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Bibeksheel Sajha Party have formally merged, sealing an agreement aimed at consolidating the campaign for alternative politics, transparency and good governance in Nepal.

Leaders from both parties signed the unity declaration during a programme held at City Hall, Kathmandu. The agreement was signed by RSP acting president Dol Prasad Aryal and vice-president Dr Swarnim Wagle, along with Bibeksheel Sajha chairperson Samiksha Baskota and vice-chair Prakash Chandra Pariyar.

The parties agreed on a five-point framework, which includes acknowledging the contributions of the late Ujwal Thapa and the Bibeksheel movement in promoting value-based alternative politics. The pact also states that the unified party will fully adopt the RSP's political principles and leadership.

Following the merger, the party will continue under the name Rastriya Swatantra Party, retaining the bell as its election symbol, said negotiation committee vice-chair Shishir Khanal.

Members and supporters from both sides attended the announcement ceremony.
