KATHMANDU, JANUARY 31

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) disrupted the first meeting of the fifth session of the House of Representatives (HoR) at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor today, staging a brief walkout before returning 15 minutes later.

As soon as the meeting started, RSP lawmakers stood from their seats and disrupted the proceedings. Despite repeated requests from Speaker Devraj Ghimire to allow the session to continue, the lawmakers continued in their protest, demanding time to express their views during the emergency hour. However, Speaker Ghimire clarified that all parties had been allotted time to present their views on behalf of their respective parties.

Ignoring the Speaker's order to sit in their seats, RSP lawmakers continued their protest and disregarded his explanation about the procedural difference between a regular session and the first meeting of a new session.

The disruption lasted for approximately 30 minutes. As Speaker Ghimire proceeded with the session despite the protests, the RSP lawmakers walked out, boycotting the meeting for 15 minutes.

Fifteen minutes later, they returned to the meeting, stating that their walkout was a symbolic protest.
