Sandhya Times scribe dies

Kathmandu, March 7:
Elvis Joshi, assistant editor of vernacular daily Sandhya Times died today after he fell off a building.
He was 30. Joshi had fallen off the second floor of a building last evening. He was cremated
at Shobha Bhagawati ghat this afternoon. General-secretary of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal and human rights activist Padma Ratna Tuladhar, among others, paid last tributes to the journalist. The fraternity of journalists also paid homage to him and remembered his long-standing contribution to the field of journalism.
For the past 11 years, he had worked in different Newari newspapers like, Inaap, Bishwabhoomi and Nhoogu Bishwabhoomi before joining Sandhya Times and EE-lohan.
He used to write for Jana Astha and Nari Maanch. He dealt with the issues of women, children and human rights, apart from political analyses. Joshi was a recipient of the Dhuswaa Bishwabhoomi Award and was also honoured by the Child Workers In Nepal for focusing on child rights. He was the treasurer of Nepal Human Rights Protection Centre and secretary of Social Watch Group Nepal.
Meanwhile, Suresh Manandhar, editor of Sandhya Times has expresed condolence on the untimely demise of the journalist and appreciated his contribution to the field of joinalism.
