Suspended CA member Sanjay Sah convicted in ammunition, public offence cases

KATHMANDU: Sadbhawana Party Constituent Assembly member Sanjay Sah, who is facing a murder trial, was convicted in two criminal cases -- arms and ammunition case and public offence case -- today.

The full bench of Supreme Court endorsed the verdict of the Janakpur Appellate Court in these cases filed against Sah 12 years ago in his home district, Dhanusha.

The Dhanusha District Administration Office had slapped a jail sentence of one year and nine months and a fine of Rs 5,000 on Sah on July 14, 2004 in arms and ammunition case. It was later endorsed by the Appellate Court.

Likewise, the Dhanusha DAO had slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Sah in the public offence case, which was also endorsed by the Appellate Court.

The SC endorsed the Appellate Court’s verdict in the public offence case as well.

When Sah filed an appeal at the SC against the verdict of the Janakpur Appellate Court, SC Justices Awadhesh Kumar Yadav and Kamal Naryan Das had their opinion divided, following which the case went to the full bench.

Similarly, the full bench also endorsed the verdict of Janakpur Appellate Court in the public offence case filed against Sah.

The case was heard by Justice Baidhya Nath Upadhyay, Debendra Gopal Shrestha and Cholendra SJB Rana today.

According to the Court documents, a case under Arms and Ammunition Act was filed against Sah after a pistol and a khukuri was found in his possession on May 17, 2003. Sah is currently in the judicial custody in connection with Janakpur blast that killed five people.
