SC directive on discrimination in NA

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the government to “scale down” discrimination against women army personnel while promulgating Military Regulation.

A three-member bench comprising justices Ram Prasad Shrestha, Ram Kumar Prasad Shah and Abadhesh Kumar Yadav issued the verdict. “Scale down discrimination against women while recruiting them in the Nepali Army and consult the concerned party while promulgating the regulation,” the bench directed.

The bench was responding to a Public Interest Litigation filed by advocates Sapana Pradhan Malla and Meera Dhungana.

They had moved the apex court stating that the Nepali Army does not accept married women, recruiting only single or unmarried women.
