Kathmandu, May 13:
The Supreme Court today ordered the government authorities — the Home Ministry, the Police headquarters, the Kathmandu District Police Office and the Kathmandu District Administration Office — to release two prominent student leaders Rajendra Rai and Rup Narayan Shrestha.
Rai is former president and Shrestha is former vice-president of CPN-UML affiliated ANNFSU.
They were taken under preventive detention as per Peace and Security Act 1989 after the royal move on February 1.
A division bench of justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Arjun Prasad Singh issued the order to the authorities responding to separate habeas corpus cases seeking their release.
The bench also told the authorities to report the apex court about their release.
