The Supreme Court (SC) has settled a total of 16,634 cases in the last fiscal year (2081/82).

A total of 40,741 cases were recorded during the period, including 25,728 cases, writs, and applications/reports carried over from the previous fiscal year, and 15,013 newly registered cases. Of these, 40.82 percent were resolved, the Supreme Court reported.

According to SC spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the number of cases settled represents a 6.69 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut submitted the Supreme Court's annual report for the fiscal year 2081/82 to President Ramchandra Paudel today.

The report stated that 73.67 percent of the 83,410 cases recorded at the High Courts-including both carryover cases and new registrations for fiscal year 2081/82-were cleared. This clearance rate was 8.85 percent higher than the previous year.

At the district courts, 62.10 percent of the 268,044 registered cases were settled, reflecting an 8.90 percent increase over the previous year, the report added.
