School locked over firing of teachers
Kathmandu, April 27:
Demanding the reinstatement of two teachers, the Institutional School Teachers’ Union-Nepal(ISTU-N) today padlocked the Lalitpur-based New Millennium High School (NMHS).
A group of ISTU-N members misbehaved and padlocked the school, pressurising the management to extend the contract period of the two schoolteachers, the NMHS charged in a press release.
“In telephonic conversation, ISTU-N members threatened to attack the school,” the NMHS charged. Condemning the act, the school management has called on the authorities concerned to take steps to stop such acts. “The two teachers cannot be reinstated because their performance was not satisfactory,” the NMHS said.
Sahadev Thapa, Lalitpur district president of the ISTU-N, accused the school principal of hiring hooligans to beat up. “The teachers were late for only a couple of days but the principal made it a big issue,” he said.
