Kathmandu, April 5

Ghattekulo-based Suryodaya Jyoti Secondary School, Ananda Bhumi High School and Blue Sky Public High School have merged to form SAB Public School under Suryodaya Education Foundation.

Lacche Bahadur KC is the chairperson, while Bhoj Bahadur Shah and Prem Oli are the directors of SAB Public School. Mark Wiebers, an American citizen, has been appointed the school principal.

Speaking at a programme organised by the school here today to announce the merger, school chairperson KC said the three schools had been merged to support the government’s policy of merger to improve the quality of education in institutional schools.

KC who is also the president of Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal said they decided to merge the schools, which were at a distance of less than a kilometre, to provide quality education to students at an affordable cost.

“We believe in philosophy of ‘together we can’ and ‘educate locally, think globally,’ said KC, adding, “Too many schools in a small area was not worthwhile thus through merger we wanted to ensure quality education.”

Bhoj Bahadur Shah, director of Mega Bank and former president of PABSON, said, “The government is encouraging mergers. Therefore, we decided to begin the work from ourselves.”

Citing example of the merger of Siddhartha and Banasthali schools a few decades ago, he stated that the merger of schools had a long history in the country.

“All the three schools were in category ‘B’. After this merger, we will make our best efforts to get the new school in the ‘A’ category by upgrading its infrastructure and improving the quality of education,” he added. SJSS had 350, ABHS 225 and BSPHS 300 students.

Shah also said the three schools have informed parents about the merger.

From the new academic session, the SAB Public School will be running its primary block at SJSS and secondary block at ABHS.

They also informed about plans to construct a new school building at Suryodaya block within a year to run all classes from same place.
