KMC Mayor Balen Shah accuses police of siding with Marwadi amid tensions over ownership of Dharamshala

Kathmandu, October 9
Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Force today replaced the Marwadi Sewa Samiti board with a metropolitan board in Gaushala Dharamshala.
However, businesspeople took to the streets in response, resulting in a scuffle between KMC police and businesspeople after the Metropolitan Police replaced the Marwadi Sewa Samiti's board with their own.
A scuffle erupted between city police and the Marwadi Sewa Samiti, which had arrived to evacuate the Gaushala Dharamshala owned by the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT).
Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah took to Facebook today, accusing police of failing to assist in conducting metropolis jurisdiction work.
In his post, he claimed that despite the fact that the Pashupati Area Development had delegated responsibility for the Pashupati Dharamshala to the KMC, police were assisting the Marwadi Sewa Samiti, rather than supporting the KMC.
On Wednesday, Shah wrote on Facebook, "The Marwadi Sewa Samiti has unlawfully taken control of 9 ropani, 9 anna, and 2 paisa of land under the name of the Gaushala Dharamshala, paying puny amount over the years. The court ruled that their claim was invalid. Thus, PADT must take responsibility. Now, when the KMC attempted to operate the Dharmshala to provide free meals and medical care to the needy, the Nepal Police intervened to protect the committee."
He further said, "From this, it is obvious that the country is run by such a committee. Such committees' illegitimate relationships transcend rules and courts. Ironically, we believe that the police and government control the country."
On Tuesday, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the PADT reached a seven-point agreement, transferring management of the Dharmshala to the metropolis.
However, when KMC officials attempted to replace the board to claim its ownership of Dharmshala on Wednesday, committee members protested, and Shah accused the police of supporting them.
