Sealed showrooms in Durbarmarg reopen

KATHMANDU: Shops and brand showrooms in Durbarmarg, which were sealed for engaging in ‘fraudulent’ activities, reopened after 24 days on Tuesday.

A government team led by Minister for Supplies Shiva Kumar Mandal had sealed the shops and brand showrooms on September 4 following complaints that the shops were fleecing customers.

Minister Mandal had claimed that the raid was a protective action taken against fraudulent business practice and to prevent customers from being cheated.

Black Marketing Act of Nepal 1975 states that no business or service should make more than 20 per cent profit. Some of the shops and brand showrooms in Durbarmarg were found selling a pair of shoes at more than six times the actual price.
