Self defense training for women held in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: National Women Commission has organised a half day Women Empowerment Self Defense training on Tuesday.

Female staff working at the helpline established by NWC, the employees from Care Nepal and other organisations took part in the training held at National Women Commission, Bhadrakali Plaza, Kathmandu.

The overall objective of the Self Defense training was to physically and mentally empower the helpline related staff of NWC, CARE Nepal and its partners who are standby 24 hours a day to support the gender-based violence victims, said trainer Giri Bahadur Sunar.

According to participants, the training was very much interactive and covered both psychological motivation and self-defense skills.

Sunar said that such training was needed because women/girls may not always get help from others when needed. “This training will boost their confidence level and improve their physical and mental health. So it will be helpful for them when they do not have anyone around them to help, in case of violence,” said Sunar.

The helpline established by NWC provides support to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).
