SDBNTC reeling under space, manpower crunch

Kathmandu, March 8

Shahid Dharma Bhakta National Transplant Centre is facing difficulty in delivering quality health services due to lack of enough space and human resources.

According to Executive Director at SDBNTC Dr Pukar Chandra Shrestha, the hospital has modern technology, but it has not been able to deliver quality health services due to lack of space and human resources.

Dr Shrestha said the hospital had requested the government to expand the hospital area and add more beds for patients in the hospital, but in vain.

“The hospital is the only transplant centre run by the government where more than 400 patients are awaiting kidney transplantation. Hundreds of patients visit the hospital for dialysis service every day,” he said.

“Though we are conducting surgeries and transplantation, we are not able to provide timely  services due to space crunch,” informed Dr Shrestha.

Dr Shrestha also said even the building in which the hospital was running belonged to Bhaktapur District Hospital.

The hospital has been requesting the government to provide a separate building to the hospital for last two years. “To run the transplant centre, we need at least 300 beds, as it is the only one organ transplant centre of the country. At present, the hospital has only 100 beds. We are require more staffers at the hospital,” he added.

Dr Shrestha also shared that the hospital had already started cardiac service in the hospital and it had the advanced technology for cardiac service.

“We are not able to provide cardiac service to patients due to lack of heart surgeons. We urged the Ministry of Health and Population to provide the required human resource, but in vain. We even announced vacancy for the post of heart surgeon, but no candidate applied for the post,” he added.
