Deuba assures support to Bhattarai on election symbol

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday assured Naya Shakti Party Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai that he would take initiatives to allow all parties get their own election symbols for the upcoming local level elections.

While the Local Level Elections Act has allowed parties represented in the Parliament only to enjoy the prerogative, the Bhattarai-led party has been lobbying for the revision of the law.

In the same context, Bhattarai led a delegation to Deuba's Budhanilakantha-based residence today and asked the chair of the largest party in the Parliament to support the cause.

In response, Deuba said he was ready to take the initiatives and suggested that even an ordinance could be issued if the Act could not be amended by the Parliament before the polls, according to the NSPN.
