Shortage on despite chief secy claim
KATHMANDU: Although Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal had told the press that the government would distribute drinking water and food packets to the city residents who are camping out due to fear of aftershocks, no help reached the city residents today.
The Himalayan Times correspondents visited Basantpur Durbar area, Balmiki Campus area, Tundikhel and Singha Durbar to find out if any residents had received any food or drinking water from the government or any humanitarian aid providing agencies but did not find any such lucky residents.
Sita Shrestha who came from Kalikasthan to the open space inside Singha Durbar got nothing — no food or drinking water — from any agencies.
Gita Thapa was staying in the same open area since yesterday but without even a tent to protect her from the scorching heat.
“I could only get some noodles but since shops have closed now, I cannot even easily buy noodles,” she added.
Babuddin Ansari, who was staying, at Tundikhel said he and his friends got nothing to eat or drink from anybody.
Shatrughan Sah Kanu said the tent they were staying in was erected for Baba Ram Dev or else they would have to stay in the open.
“It rained yesterday and we were very worried, but thank God, the rain did not last long,” he added.
