Shrestha elected deputy leader

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Unified CPN-Maoist Parliamentary Party held in Singha Durbar on Wednesday officially elected Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘’Prakash’ as the deputy leader of the parliamentary party.

Party senior leader and Finance Minister Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai had proposed to elect Shrestha as deputy leader. The party’s central secretariat meeting had last week decided to elect Shrestha as the deputy leader. During today’s meeting, convener of the Constitution Drafting Committee formed by the party Dr Bhattarai presented a theoretical concept on constitution.

“We have proposed a single mixed system, with executive president and prime minister with limited authority, for the country,” Dr Bhattarai told reporters.

Shrestha said his party was not trying to advocate the American model, rather it would be similar to that of France and Sri Lanka.
