KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 18

Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized that political parties in the country are compelled to align in order to form a government, given that a single political party is unlikely to secure a majority due to our constitutional provisions.

Addressing the first district convention of Nepali Congress (NC) in Nuwakot on Monday, President Deuba highlighted that under Nepal's inclusive and proportional electoral system, it's challenging for a single political party to achieve a majority. "Our pragmatic constitution ensures representation of indigenous peoples, women, Dalits, and other marginalized communities. However, this electoral system doesn't favor a single-party majority," he added.

Deuba acknowledged that despite the Nepali Congress emerging as the largest political force in last year's national elections, they've joined the current government as a coalition partner considering this scenario.

During the event, Deuba expressed dissatisfaction with the factionalism occurring within the NC. NC leader Shekhar Koirala also mentioned that internal discord has weakened the party.

Additionally, NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC, NC Spokesperson and Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, NC leader Bahadur Singh Lama, and other party leaders shared their perspectives at the convention.
