KATHMANDU: A snake was spotted slithering through the red carpet rolled at Tribhuvan International Airport for President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who was scheduled to return home from New York on Friday afternoon.

As security personnel stepped up security for the head of the state and high ranking government officials started arriving in the airport to receive and welcome her, the snake which appeared to be around six-feet long turned up and slithered across the red carpet before it made its way to the nearby bush, said a police official at Tribhuvan International Airport.
