Kathmandu, January 21:
In an effort to rope in all sections of society and garner collective endeavours for peace, Solidarity for Peace has decided to organise an hour-long human chain around Tundikhel on January 29 between 1-2 pm. According to Solidarity, all sections of society including women, youth, elderly, disabled, human rights activists, intellectuals, students, teachers, artists, businessmen, daily wage workers and farmers as well as a wide range of people belonging to various ethnic, linguistic, religious and caste groups will form the chain to pressurise both the warring factions — the government and the Maoists - to initiate peace dialogue.
Participants will raise logans like “Stop armed conflict, start peace dialogue; declare the agenda for dialogue; create national consensus; stop killing and violence; respect people’s wishes; we condemn extortion and blockades; withdraw terrorist labels, dismiss red corner notices; stop killing unarmed civilians, respect human rights; stop abductions and disappearance; declare missing persons’ whereabouts; no war, only peace, no misery only progress.”
