Speaker requests PM to forge consensus by Sunday

KATHMANDU: Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar today urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to forge consensus with the opposition parties before the next Parliament session.

Speaker Gharti, who had reached the PM's residence in Baluwatar, made the request in order to resume the House meetings, which has been disrupted since November 29, 2016.

PM Dahal, in response, expressed his commitment to end the stalemate and forge consensus with the agitating political parties.

Meanwhile, the leading political parties have begun fresh talks after the Supreme Court's order to let the Parliament endorse the second Constitution amendment bill.

The main opposition CPN-UML has also hinted it would not obstruct the House meetings anymore.

Opposition parties, including the CPN-UML, have been obstructing the House proceedings time and again protesting the Constitution amendment bill registered by the ruling coalition.

Speaker Gharti yesterday held separate meetings with the leaders of other political parties to request the same.

Next House meeting has been scheduled for Sunday.
