KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 9

In preparation for the upcoming festivals in Kathmandu valley, police have started working on formulating a specialised security plan to tighten security measures.

District Police Range, Kathmandu, led by SSP Bhupendra Bahadur Khatri said they would maximise the use of technology such as CCTV cameras, drones and GoPro devices to ensure security.

These technological enhancements will be complemented by an increase in manpower deployed at various congested locations throughout the valley.

This initiative comes in response to various criminal incidents that normally rises during the festive season.

Police have aimed to provide a safer environment for citizens to celebrate the festival by deploying traditional security personnel and using modern technology to achieve this goal. "District Police Range, Kathmandu has devised a special security plan dedicated to public safety," said SSP Khatri.

Notably, police have come up with a plan to employ CCTV cameras and drones for surveillance in crowded areas, marking the first-time use of such technology for this purpose. Additionally, police will deploy personnel equipped with body-mounted GoPro cameras, facilitating the identification of any suspicious individuals.

These cameras will be instrumental in monitoring densely populated locations while trained personnel will be responsible for their operation, as per police. SSP Khatri said, "As part of the special security plan for Kathmandu district, civil assistance rooms have been established at 14 locations.

This move is intended to facilitate immediate assistance and support for citizens during the festivals.

Currently, 35 personnel have been deployed to monitor the vicinity of the bus park in the valley and plans are afoot to increase this number by an additional 50 officers."
