KATHMANDU, AUGUST 22
The Sherpa Tourism Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (STEAN) recently concluded its inaugural business coaching session, a significant initiative aimed at empowering Sherpa tourism entrepreneurs. The event took place at Hotel Monalisa Raniban in Kathmandu, bringing together emerging leaders from the Sherpa community to enhance their business acumen and promote sustainable tourism practices.
Pemba Sherpa Sangam, President of STEAN and an expert in the Organic Agro Tourism Development Concept, led the session. The training covered essential topics for the growth and sustainability of tourism enterprises, with a strong emphasis on organic agro-tourism, effective business strategies, and innovative approaches to navigating the challenges of the rapidly evolving global tourism landscape.
A key part of the discussion also focused on the burning issues of global warming and its serious effects on the Sherpa community and tourism entrepreneurs. The session explored how climate change poses significant challenges to the region's fragile ecosystem and discussed strategies for mitigating its impact while sustaining tourism growth.
This program is part of STEAN's broader mission to foster economic development within the Sherpa community by equipping local entrepreneurs with the skills needed to succeed in both domestic and international markets. The initiative aligns with the Nepal government's efforts to promote sustainable tourism as a cornerstone of economic development, particularly in the context of post-pandemic recovery.
Participants praised the program's practical approach, noting that the coaching provided them with the tools and confidence to expand their businesses while maintaining a commitment to preserving the unique cultural and environmental heritage of the Himalayan region. The success of this first session marks a significant step forward in STEAN's ongoing efforts to support the Sherpa community's role in Nepal's tourism sector.
The completion of this business coaching session has garnered attention from both national and international media, underscoring STEAN's role as a key player in driving sustainable development and innovation in the tourism industry. As global demand for sustainable and culturally enriching travel experiences continues to grow, initiatives like this position Nepal as a leading destination, with Sherpa entrepreneurs at the forefront of this movements.
